# Kays Systems System Manual

First Edition

Connections with Clarity

## Positioning

Kays Systems is an editorial institution for research, documentation, design, and connected project work.

It is not a standalone website and not a generic brand guide. It is the operating system that holds the ecosystem together.

## Core Idea

Everything should look like part of one collection.

The website, publications, reports, presentation decks, social assets, and project identities should share the same structure, tone, and visual language.

## Brand Architecture

Kays Systems is the master brand.

Projects inside the ecosystem:

- Resonant Theory
- Authority Gap Project
- Visual Archive
- Publications
- Kay's MountainTop Care

Each project has its own purpose, but all inherit the same editorial discipline.

## Naming System

Use numbered systems instead of generic chapters.

- `System 00 — Manifesto`
- `System 01 — Philosophy`
- `System 02 — Identity`
- `System 03 — Typography`
- `System 04 — Color`
- `System 05 — Systems Language`
- `System 06 — Website`
- `System 07 — Publications`
- `System 08 — Case Studies`
- `System 09 — Photography`
- `System 10 — UI System`
- `System 11 — Voice`
- `System 12 — Future`

## Signature Device

Every major page or section should carry a small system marker.

Example:

`○────○────○`

`SYSTEM 04`

`COLOR`

This marker should become a recurring visual cue across the site and publications.

## Visual Direction

The visual language should stay grounded and editorial:

- greens
- blacks
- white
- beige
- warm greys
- terracotta

Avoid cool blues and bright saturated colors.

## Typography

Use a clean, serious hierarchy.

- Primary UI and headings: `Public Sans`
- Editorial accents or select display uses: restrained, only if needed

The system should feel measured, legible, and contemporary.

## Color System

The palette should support clarity and quiet authority.

- Primary: deep forest green or near-black
- Secondary: muted grey
- Surface: white and stone
- Background: beige or eggshell
- Accent: terracotta, used sparingly
- Avoid: blue-leaning cool grays or saturated accent colors

Color should be explained, not just listed.

- Eggshell represents clarity, warmth, paper, and publishing
- Espresso or near-black represents knowledge, structure, and editorial seriousness
- Burnished copper or terracotta represents craftsmanship, history, and small moments of emphasis
- Dusty rose should be reserved, if used at all, for the Visual Archive, cloud studies, or Resonant Theory artwork

## Layout Principles

- Strong grid structure
- Generous but disciplined spacing
- Thin rules and clear separation
- Minimal motion
- Large, readable typography
- Functional rounded corners only where useful

## Website Structure

The site should mirror the manual.

Recommended homepage sections:

1. System 00 — Manifesto
2. System 01 — Philosophy
3. System 02 — Identity
4. System 03 — Publications
5. System 04 — Archive
6. System 05 — Community
7. System 06 — Contact

Every page should also carry a small system marker or connection fragment so the site feels like one coherent publication family.

## Publication Model

Every major body of work should be treated as part of a numbered collection.

Examples:

- Publication 001 — Brand Standards Manual
- Publication 002 — Authority Gap Research Framework
- Publication 003 — Visual Archive Volume One
- Publication 004 — Resonant Theory Identity Study
